As I was reading through the book of Matthew, I stumbled upon a section that stood out to me and made me pause for a moment. It comes out of Chapter 8. It is called “The Faith of the Centurion”. It starts out like this:
“5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.6 “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”
7 Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”
8 The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
We see that the Centurion in this section is admiting to Jesus he is a sinning man by starting out calling him “Lord” and secondly by saying “I do not deserve you under my roof”. Then he goes on to the next step which is acknowledging who Jesus is and his power. He said “Say the word and my servant will be healed”. But the next verse (Verse 10) is what stood out to me and made me stop.
